Season Two Recap: Building Connections and Good Work From A Good Pour

In this special episode, we’re reflecting on the heart of what makes businesses and nonprofits thrive: relationships. A good community is built on care, respect, and kindness, and the power of connection shapes our lives and businesses in unexpected ways.

In this compilation from season two of A Good Pour, we revisit the lessons from several incredible leaders who share their wisdom on creating and nurturing meaningful connections.

One of the most impactful insights comes from a 70-year Harvard study, which found that good relationships are the key to a fulfilling life. This resonates deeply in our work, where we know that whether you’re in business, leading a nonprofit, or just living life, fostering relationships can make all the difference.

Business Tips for Better Connections

Jason Elkins shared some powerful advice on communication, reminding us that listening more than we talk (70% listening, 30% talking) can transform our approach to leadership and sales. It’s about being genuinely interested in the other person, building trust, and valuing their perspective. Erin Birch encouraged us to ask for help, an often-overlooked key to expanding capacity and strengthening our networks. No one succeeds alone, and knowing when to ask for assistance is a huge asset in any field.

Jennifer Reedy with Bright Spot highlighted the importance of creating a strong culture based on core values, while Kate Ritchie with Habitat for Humanity reminded us that good work starts with good people—surround yourself with a strong team to help make your mission a success.

The Power of Generosity and Volunteerism

Leaders like Jared Stancil from Anchor Transportation showed us how supporting employees, like offering confidential counseling services, fosters a compassionate workplace. Troy Smith spoke on the importance of mindset, telling us that time and relationships are the currencies that make a true difference.

Our volunteers know that a little help goes a long way. Whether it’s financial or with time, the generosity of this community continues to show up and make a lasting impact.

As we look forward to the next season of A Good Pour, I’m excited to expand our reach, share more stories, and continue learning from the incredible people who are doing good work every day.
