Lizzie’s Internship Journey: 615 Interiors Storytelling & Design

One of my favorite things about A Good Pour is sharing stories about good work. And today, I get to highlight one of our incredible interns, Lizzie Shipley, and her journey through our Good Circle Marketing internship program.

Every year, we select high school seniors who are eager to gain real-world marketing experience. These students work with local businesses and nonprofits to create a marketing foundation—helping them define who they are, who they serve, and how they share their message with the world. This hands-on approach gives our interns invaluable experience while making a real impact for small businesses. It’s a win-win-win.

Lizzie, a senior at Beech High School, took on the challenge of working with 615 Interiors, a growing interior design business owned by Gwen Canfield. What followed was a journey in creativity, storytelling, and learning how good design and good marketing go hand in hand.

Why Lizzie Chose This Project

Lizzie is no stranger to the business world—she’s the president of Beech’s DECA chapter and has been deeply involved in marketing throughout high school. When it came time to pick her special project, 615 Interiors stood out.

“I really loved how Gwen put so much care and passion into her website and branding. I could tell she had a strong vision for her business, and I wanted to be a part of helping her tell that story,” Lizzie shared.

The Power of Research & AI in Marketing

One of the biggest takeaways from Lizzie’s internship was the importance of research. To craft an effective marketing plan, she had to dive into the world of interior design, understanding not just the industry, but also what made 615 Interiors unique.

“This internship showed me how much research goes into good marketing. I wasn’t just creating graphics—I was learning about the business, the target audience, and what stories needed to be told.”

Lizzie also got hands-on experience with AI, a new addition to our internship program this year. With AI, she was able to gather insights, brainstorm content ideas, and create a marketing strategy much more efficiently.

“AI isn’t about replacing creativity—it’s about enhancing it. It gave me a starting point, helped me organize ideas, and made research so much faster. It’s definitely a tool I’ll be using in the future.”

Telling Stories Through Design

Gwen’s passion for design is all about creating spaces that feel like home. Her unique approach focuses on function first—helping clients visualize their dream space before they ever make a purchase.

“Interior design isn’t just about picking out furniture. It’s about creating sanctuaries—spaces where people can recharge, connect, and feel truly at home. Whether it’s a cozy reading nook, a pet-friendly living room, or a kitchen designed for gathering, every space tells a story.”

Lizzie’s job was to help Gwen refine and share that message through content strategy and branding. Together, they worked on a marketing plan that would help Gwen not only reach new clients but also educate them on the impact of intentional design.

Lessons for the Future

When I asked Lizzie what she’s taking away from this experience, she had a simple but powerful answer:

“Marketing is storytelling. Whether it’s a brand, a product, or a design, the goal is to connect with people in a way that’s meaningful. This internship showed me how marketing can shape businesses and make a real impact.”

Lizzie’s journey is just beginning, and I have no doubt she’s headed for great things. Her creativity, work ethic, and ability to think strategically will serve her well in whatever she chooses to pursue.

Looking Ahead

It’s been such a joy to watch this internship program grow, and I’m so proud of all our interns this year. Small businesses and nonprofits have incredible stories to tell, and when we invest in the next generation of marketers, we help bring those stories to life.

To Lizzie—thank you for your hard work, creativity, and passion for learning. And to Gwen—thank you for trusting our program and giving Lizzie the opportunity to help shape your brand’s story.

Here’s to more good work, more good stories, and more interns making an impact in the years to come!
