College Marketing Interns: Fresh Perspectives and New Ideas

Hi friends, I’m Kathryn Good, and welcome back to A Good Pour! Today’s episode was extra special because I was joined by two amazing young women who are already making waves in their college journeys and future careers in marketing. Campbell Hubbard, a current college intern at Good Circle Marketing from the University of Tennessee, and Gavie Ann Smith, a past high school intern who’s now at Belmont University, both stopped by to share their experiences. These two have been a bright light, helping behind the scenes and learning all about the ins and outs of marketing.

I’m always inspired by the next generation of leaders, and it’s been such a joy to watch Campbell and Gavie Ann grow into who they are meant to be. Let’s dive into some of the highlights from our chat about their college experiences, what sparked their interest in marketing, and the wisdom they have for others just starting their journeys.

Learning Marketing Beyond the Textbook

For Campbell, marketing wasn’t just a major she chose on a whim. It was something she connected with back in high school, thanks to a teacher who sparked her love for the subject. Now a business student at the University of Tennessee, she’s taking her marketing knowledge beyond the classroom by diving into the real-world application of her studies. She shared with me how working at Good Circle Marketing has shown her the power of storytelling and community involvement. “Seeing how this company focuses on good work and shines a light on what matters has really helped me understand marketing in a whole new way,” she said.

Gavie Ann’s journey to marketing also began in high school, where she stumbled upon the subject and instantly clicked with it. By the time she entered Belmont University, she knew social media marketing was her passion. She even got to take a class on managing social media—learning from those infamous apology videos we’ve all seen! She loved every minute of it. “Social media marketing is such an underrated form of marketing, and I’ve loved focusing on it,” Gavie Ann said

Finding Your People in College

When I asked about their college experiences, both Campbell and Gavie Ann had some great advice for those getting ready to take that next step. Campbell emphasized the importance of being true to yourself: “Go into it being 100% yourself and grateful for what you’ve been given,” she said. She spoke about the importance of staying grounded while also embracing the growth that college brings.

Gavie Ann, who just wrapped up her freshman year, reflected on how quickly time flew by and how important it was for her to attend everything she could. “You hear it all the time, but really, go to everything,” she advised. Though her friendships shifted throughout the year, she trusted that God would place her in the right situations. Sure enough, by the second semester, she found her people, and everything clicked.

Respect, Responsibility, and Growth

One topic that came up was how their generation wants to be seen—especially when it comes to responsibility. Campbell pointed out that being given responsibility and respect is key to feeling valued as a young adult. “Respect is my number one value,” she said. “Being seen as capable and trusted to take on responsibility has helped me grow so much.”

Gavie Ann added that even though she’s close to home at Belmont, she’s branched out and found a new community that feels like a second home. She reminded us that college is a time to embrace new people and experiences and that growth often happens when you step outside of your comfort zone.

A Love for Home, Near and Far

As we wrapped up, we talked about what they missed most about home. For Campbell, Middle Tennessee will always be home, no matter where she goes. She spoke so beautifully about the sense of family and community here, saying, “Middle Tennessee will always be my home base. It’s filled me with so much love that I’m able to outpour onto others.”

Gavie Ann shared how being away at college has strengthened her relationship with her parents. “I didn’t realize how much I missed them until I started staying at Belmont more often,” she said. It’s funny how distance can make you appreciate the things you once took for granted.

Looking Forward to the Future

Both Campbell and Gabvie Ann are well on their way to becoming marketing professionals, and I couldn’t be prouder of them. They’re shining examples of what happens when you lean into your strengths, embrace responsibility, and stay true to yourself. Whether they return to Middle Tennessee after graduation or venture elsewhere, I know they’ll continue to do good work wherever they go.

Thank you, Campbell and Gavie Ann, for being part of the Good Circle family and for sharing your journey with us. I’m excited to see all that you’ll accomplish in the future—and remember, I’ll always be cheering you on!

Until next time, let’s keep doing good work, friends!
